The North Union Farmers Market has been a long-standing summer staple at Legacy Village. You can visit the market every Sunday now through September 24 from 10am – 1pm in The Capital Grille parking lot. The market is teeming with all sorts of products and produce grown by a wonderful group of different farmers.
Amy Nowak of Wandering Creek Farms in Newton Falls, OH was generous enough to answer some questions about her farm in an effort to share more about her business with our customers!
When did you start farming?
My husband and I bought the initial piece of the farm in 1988. We then began raising grass-fed and grass finished cows not long after that. After we had our children, we began raising pastured chicken, pork, turkey and eggs so that we would have healthy meat that was free of antibiotics and hormones to feed our own family.
How many people are on your team at the farm?
Our farm is a family farm; we work on the farm together as a family of six to run our business.
What do you think sets your farm apart?
On our farm, we put the animals’ needs before anything else. For example, if the weather is suggesting flood warnings, we move the cows to higher pastures. If an animal seems unwell, we never hesitate to make an appointment with the vet. If we had a busier day, we still make sure to move the chickens onto fresh pastures before the end of each day.
What is your favorite part of farming?
I have two favorite parts. I love that it provides our family with the opportunity to work together and I love being able to give the animals the best quality of life on the farm.
Why do you come to the Legacy Village market?
I come to the Legacy Village market because I love meeting the people. The community has a great interest in grass-fed and pastured meats. I’m happy that I can provide these meat selections for the community and I’m glad I have the opportunity to answer people’s questions about what it means to be grass-fed and pasture raised.
Amy has had a booth at our market for a long time. You can always find her with a smile on her face and willing to answer any questions you might have about where your meat products come from! You can also find Wandering Creek Farms’ products during the market season in Tremont on Tuesdays from 4-7pm; in Solon on Wednesdays from 3-7pm; and in Stow on Saturdays from 9-12:30pm.
